Former Alabama standout JD Davison has reached a major milestone in his basketball journey. The 22-year-old security guard was named the most valuable player in the 2024-25 Kia NBA G League after an outstanding season with the Main Celtics.
Seasons to remember
Davison led the G League in points, averaging 25.6 points per game, adding 5.1 rebounds, 7.7 assists and 1.4 steals. His contributions helped Maine secure a third seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. During the season, he recorded 13 double doubles and two triple doubles, earning over 30 points in 15 games.
His advantage was not limited to the regular season. In the first round of the G-League playoffs, Davison put up 38 points and 12 assists to win Maine 115-95 against Capital Go-Go. His all-round game and leadership make him stand out as one of the most impactful players in the league.
The Celtics organization praises Davison’s growth
Brad Stevens, president of the Boston Celtics basketball operations, praised Davison for his work ethic and steady improvements.

Main Celtics head coach Tyler Ruschbrook repeated similar sentiments, highlighting Davison’s leadership and development.

From College Star to G League MVP
Davison’s journey is filled with highs and lows. As Alabama’s top recruit, he was expected to be selected for the lottery in the 2022 NBA Draft. However, after an inconsistent freshman season, his draft stock fell, making him the 53rd overall pick from the Boston Celtics.
Rather than letting him define him during that set, Davison made tireless efforts to prove himself. Over three seasons with Maine, he became the franchise’s greatest leader ever. His record-breaking performance solidified his legacy in the G-League.
