COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — A Newnan man faces theft charges after police say he stole money from his girlfriend while in jail.

Coweta deputies were called to the Grayson Trail Sheriff’s Office regarding a theft.

Turner told deputies that her boyfriend, Matthew Davis, got hold of her cell phone and transferred all of her money to him via Cash App.

When they arrived, they spoke with a woman named Marie Turner, who said she had been arrested on February 5 and booked into the Coweta Jail.

She was reportedly shown to authorities at the time the transaction took place.

On February 5, three separate transactions were reportedly sent from Turner’s cell phone to Davis’ cell phone.

The first transaction occurred at 2:23 a.m. for $280, the second transaction occurred at 2:44 a.m. for a total of $513.87, and the third transaction occurred at 2:51 a.m. for $474.57, according to the sheriff’s office. was.

Coweta officials said Turner then showed lawmakers a text from Davis that read, “I really tried…I gave myself your money…” .

Turner said that’s when she was arrested and couldn’t bring her cell phone to jail. The phone was left at Davis’ home.

She also told lawmakers this was her personal account, not a joint account.

CCSO checked with the jail to find out when Turner was in the jail. Her representatives said the indications show she arrived at 1:23 a.m. on Feb. 5 and was released at 12:39 a.m.

Davis was arrested and charged with theft. He was booked into the Coweta County Jail.
