Big news! I’m releasing a new book! This is a major update to my New York Times bestselling travel guide. How to travel the world on $50 a day.

Except this new edition is called: How to travel the world on $75 a day.

Why a new edition? Well, because of inflation…and because the way we travel has changed since COVID-19.

The final version of my book was published in 2017 and since then, a lot It has changed. Coronavirus has changed the travel industry forever. While many businesses, hotels and hostels were closed during the pandemic, old ways to save money became obsolete and new ones emerged.

Destinations around the world have also changed. For example, when I wrote the final version of this book, there was very little rail travel in Southeast Asia. Laos now has railways connecting all major cities, Cambodia has revived its railway system, and Thailand is expanding its railway system.

And since 2017, prices have increased significantly. Not only due to natural inflation, but also due to the post-COVID-19 inflation boom. Travel prices are not as cheap as they were in 2017.

Travel has changed so much that I wanted my book to reflect the current situation we as travelers face when it comes to planning trips, saving money, and navigating regions around the world. How to be a smart budget traveler is different in 2017. I want to give you all the tools you need to be a smart budget traveler.

In fact, they differ in so many ways that I ended up writing over 80% of the book. In my opinion, this is essentially a new book, not just an “update.” (This means that if you’ve bought this before, you can buy this new edition without worrying that the content is mostly the same.)

This new version adds the following features:

  • New section on collecting and redeeming points and miles.
  • Our fully updated resources section is filled with businesses and accommodations that I love.
  • Learn more about overtourism and how to be a responsible traveler.
  • We’ve completely revised and updated and expanded our Destinations section, including new prices, ways to save money, and tips on where to eat, accommodation, transportation, and activities.
  • Tips on new travel and how to save money before you leave.
  • New ways to save money on lodging, including how to get free nights.
  • New ways to save money on transportation (new information about transportation passes).

And that’s in addition to the usual price and information updates you’d expect with any new update. This book has everything you need to know to save money and quit tourism in one place.

This book is not just for long-term travelers. For people who want to save money, go off the beaten path, and travel smarter, no matter the length of their trip. That’s because the length of your trip doesn’t change what you buy, what equipment you buy, and how you save money in London.
