Idris Elba plays a corporate negotiator forced to use his skills to save a hijacked plane in the new series Hijack.
The role is certainly different from the decade-long role of a hard-hitting criminal investigator on the hit British crime drama Luther. Idris told Extra’s Megan Wright that he wonders how Luthor would have dealt with the hijacking.
“Luther would have waited for the hijackers to pass by, tripped them, grabbed their seatbelts around their necks, elbowed them in the back of the head, and used them as shields to keep others calm. Because he’s not negotiating or playing with crap. He’s not like that. ”
He revealed what kind of negotiator Idris is at work and at home with wife Sabrina Doerr. I’m a Virgo so I guess that’s what makes me a fair person. We consider all pros and cons. If you say ‘No, I can’t get it’, I’ll figure out a way to get what you want. ”
He added with a smile: “The business side is easy. The home team is tough.”
Filming “Hijack” was also a challenge, as all seven episodes progressed in real time.
“It was the longest flight of my life,” said the actor. “That show took six months to make. I was claustrophobic. It was so hot I couldn’t even change my shirt once.”
He continued: It was a true test of human nature and mind control. was fun. It was nice to be able to play with something really familiar that you’ve seen in the movies—hijacking—and really flip it. ”
Idris added that while the story of “Hijack” is more like a real-life event about an airplane, actually working on the show has made him less afraid of what can happen in the sky.
“I know more about flying than a first-time pilot, because we have to replicate the truth about what we are doing. It’s not scary. After this show, I’m even less scared of flying.”
“Hijack” premieres on AppleTV+ on June 29th.
