The red-brick Georgian mansion known to children around the world as Kevin McAllister’s home is back on the market for the first time in 12 years, asking $5.25 million.

“It’s a great opportunity to get into the neighborhood,” said Tim and Trisha Johnson, who are selling the property with help from Katie Moore and Dawn McKenna of Coldwell Banker Realty. Four years after taking ownership of the property, the Johnsons carried out extensive renovations themselves, completing and expanding the basement, adding a home theater and sports court, and remodeling parts of the house.

The home was originally built in the 1920s and is about 5,700 square feet on a half-acre lot.

When the Johnsons were house hunting years ago, Trisha confided to Tim that she had always dreamed of the red-brick Georgian home featured in the movie “The Lily.” Home Alone“At the time, neither of us knew it was in Illinois, or that it was in one of the towns we were considering,” she said. During the renovation, the couple kept the key features that are part of the iconic scene intact. The theater, which has seven custom seats and a bar, also features a Lego replica of the home the Johnsons built, along with a large Lego figure of Kevin that Lego provided the couple, who plan to leave both to them when they sell the house.

Trisha said despite the couple’s love for the home, they have decided to offload the property now to take advantage of the luxury stock shortage. The Wall Street Journal.

“Every year it seems like there are more and more people wanting to buy and inventory is very low,” real estate agent Katie Moore said.

The median sales price of a home in Winnetka was $1.4 million in April, down 4 percent from a year ago. RedfinThe real estate firm described the market as “moderately competitive,” with some homes seeing multiple buyers and the average property selling for 4 percent above the asking price.

“Right now we have multiple buyers for a $4 million home, which is not unusual,” Moore added.
