The Hello Kitty theme park in Tokyo was forced to close for the day after receiving a “terrorist threat,” its operator announced.

Sanrio Puroland, also known as Hello Kitty Land, is located in Tama New Town in northern Tokyo. In a statement posted on the park’s official website, operators said they received a “terror threat email” on Saturday.

The operator said, “We have decided to temporarily close because we are unable to adequately ensure the safety of our customers, performers, and on-site staff.”

A formal police report has been filed and a refund for Saturday’s ticket is being considered, it added.

“Thanks to the cooperation of the police, we can confirm that there is no longer a security threat. Therefore, we will resume normal operations on February 25th.”

“Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and we will continue to work hard to ensure that everyone can enjoy the event with peace of mind.”

Police found no suspicious objects, according to a report by Japanese broadcaster NHK and cited by Reuters.
