GEORGETOWN, Ky. (FOX 56) — This Georgetown boy believes it’s better to give than receive, and his actions prove it.

Instead of asking for a birthday present, an 11-year-old boy named Gavin Maynard asked for donations. This is the second year Gavin has used his birthday to donate all proceeds to charity.

Kim Maynard, Gavin’s mother, said: “When people ask what Gavin wants for his birthday, we basically just say we’re raising money to give to charity. ” he said.

This year, Gavin chose Brady’s K-9 Fund. The foundation raises money to make Kevlar vests for police dogs to protect them in the workplace. After collecting the money, he donated it to the Georgetown Police Department.

“I want to help others, especially dogs, be brave in what they do and protect our city,” Gavin said.

This isn’t the first time he’s put others first. Last year Gavin donated his birthday money to Toys for Tots.

“We had to meet the firefighters. We bought toys and took them to the fire station. We gave them to them and they went around distributing the toys we received,” Gavin said. Ta.

Kim said her family raised her to give back and now it’s important to instill that in her son.

“I’m glad he’s so proactive and generous with what he’s earned and what he gives to others because he can make a difference in the world,” Kim said.

“He loves volunteering. He’s very selfless in that regard and loves helping our people,” Gavin’s father, Brad Maynard, said.

Gavin said he hopes to make each birthday more special than the last by continuing to donate.

“It will probably be traditional, but I would still like a toy.

Gavin was able to donate nearly $300 to support the Georgetown Police Department’s K-12 unit. He also said he couldn’t have done it without the support of his friends.
