49ers tight end George Kittle had a tough offseason because of nagging core muscle injuries that were surgically repaired and an injury to the AC joint in his shoulder during the Super Bowl, but after losing 30 pounds because he couldn’t lift weights, Kittle said he’s made a full recovery.

Kittle said he’s down to 214 pounds, about 30 pounds less than his active weight, but is where he’d like to be when camp starts.

“I’ve got the weight back,” Kittle said. “I usually play between 242-245 pounds during the season, but I got back down to 243 last week, so that was great. I got all the weight back. The offseason was kind of weird, not being able to train like I normally do, so a lot of it was spent recovering. Through OTAs, June and July, I was able to get back into the rhythm that I wanted to get back into. I feel like I’m ready to start training camp.”

Kittle said he was unable to train normally during the offseason and as a result lost a lot of muscle mass, but that the muscle mass grew back once he was fully cleared to train.

“If you don’t work out, you lose weight really fast,” Kittle said. “I had an AC in my shoulder during the Super Bowl, then I had surgery and couldn’t do any kind of weightlifting. So I basically did nothing for a few weeks and lost a lot of weight. But then I got back in the gym and was able to start again and I was up to 230 pounds. Then I’ve gained 10 pounds over the last four to six weeks, so I’m happy about that.”

The 49ers feel Kittle is trending in a good direction as he enters his eighth NFL season.
