President Biden’s reelection campaign on Tuesday dismissed former President Trump’s challenge to a charity golf match as a “weird prank” — just months after the president himself said he’d be “happy to play.”

At a campaign rally at the Doral Course in South Florida on Tuesday, Trump issued a challenge to Biden: If the former president loses, they will compete in a golf match in which Biden will donate $1 million to a charity of his choice.

“I’m also officially challenging Bad Boy Joe to an 18-hole golf match here at the Blue Monster in Doral, one of the great tournament golf courses in the world, one of the best courses in the world,” Trump said. “This will be one of the most-watched sporting events in history, maybe even bigger than the Ryder Cup or the Masters.”

“I would beat Joe Biden by 10 strokes. 10 strokes is a lot. For those of you who don’t play golf, I’d say 20 strokes. If he wins, I’ll give $1 million to a charity of his choice. I bet he won’t take me up on that offer.”

Reacting to Trump’s comments, Biden campaign spokesman James Singer said in a statement: “After 12 days of not being seen in public, Donald Trump is now inviting a fictional serial killer to dinner, mocking Marco Rubio, praising Project 2025 architect Tom Homan, and challenging the president of the United States to a game of golf.”

“Joe Biden doesn’t have time for Donald Trump’s bizarre behavior. He’s busy leading America and defending the free world. Donald Trump is a liar, convicted fraudster and self-serving con man. No surprise there,” Singer added.

Singer’s comments come just over three months after Biden expressed his intention to play golf against the former president.

“Donald, my offer to play golf still stands: If you bring your own bag, I’ll take three strokes off your play,” Biden said in a March 30 post on X.

The post also included footage of Biden telling comedian Stephen Colbert that he’d “love to” play golf with Trump.

The possibility of a golf match between the former and current presidents was also raised during the first presidential debate in Atlanta on June 27, when Trump, discussing fitness, said he had won two club championships and claimed Biden couldn’t hit the ball more than 50 yards.

At the time, Biden claimed he would “love to have a driving challenge” to Trump and claimed he had lowered his golf handicap to six as vice president, though he later revised that to eight.

But Trump, an avid golfer, didn’t believe it.

“The biggest lie is that his handicap is six,” he said. Trump’s handicap is listed as the lowest on record at 2.5.

Reigning US Open Champion Bryson DeChambeau He also proposed hosting a golfing match between Biden and Trump on his YouTube channel to settle the debate over who is the better golfer.

“Let’s settle the handicap debate. I’ll host a golf game on YouTube,” DeChambeau wrote in a post on X after the controversy.
