FALL RIVER — There are two new ways to get around the city this summer: a water taxi sailing the Taunton River and a trolley touring Fall River’s sights.

The water taxi Borden Light Marina Carrying tourists along the waterfront, the trolley is a city-owned service purchased with American Rescue Plan Act funds that makes stops at scenic sites throughout the city.

Currently, both the water taxi and trolley are open to visitors.

If you’re not sure how to get on, how much it costs, or how to get a ticket, here are some things to keep in mind:

Fall River’s New Water Taxi: How to Get Tickets

overview: The water taxis, which transport passengers from Borden Wright Marina, Pier 52, Thomas Norton City Pier and Bicentennial Park, are an alternative to traffic jams on dusty Davol Street and a way to get an up-close look at the city’s waterfront.

When you run: Thursday through Sunday, noon to 7 p.m., through Labor Day.

How to board: Water taxis depart from the following stops:

  • Tipsy Gull: Every hour
  • Bicentennial Park: 3 p.m.
  • City Pier: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Pier 52: 1 hour 45 minutes

How to get tickets: The fare is $3 per person and tickets can be purchased with cash or credit card upon boarding the ferry.

Fall River has a new trolley service that focuses on the city's tourist attractions.

overview: The trolley circles the city, stopping at 12 points of interest – a way for tourists to see more of Fall River’s special charms in one trip, and for residents to get a new perspective on the city and discover spots they’ve never seen before.

Executed at: There are 12 stops and the whole trip takes 1 hour.

  2. Santo Cristo Church and Columbia Street (255 Columbia St.)
  3. St. Anne’s Church and Cathedral, Kennedy Park (South Main and Park Streets)
  4. St. Mary’s Cathedral and the Lizzie Borden House (327 Second Street)
  5. Lower Highlands & Troy Street (44 Troy St.)
  6. Historic Highland & Little Theatre Fireburn (340 Prospect St.)
  7. Oak Grove Cemetery and Lizzie Borden’s Grave (762 Prospect Street)
  8. Portugalia Marketplace (489 Bedford St.)
  9. Purchase Street Dining District (60 Bedford St.)
  10. North Main Street and the Children’s Museum (441 N. Main St.)
  11. Bicentennial Park and Waterfront Promenade (park entrance)
  12. Lafayette Durfee House (94 Cherry Street)

Can I get on and off? Yes, you can hop off at any stop to explore the surrounding area and then hop back on when the trolley returns to continue your journey.

Can anyone ride? Yes, the trolley is wheelchair accessible.

Is it a guided tour? There are no tour guides on the trolleys. Viva Fall River has put together web pages for each stop. It includes information about the history and attractions near each stop, suggestions for places to eat, etc. Each stop has signs with QR codes to find the information.

When you run: Saturday and Sunday, 9am to 4pm

How to get tickets: No cash required. Buy tickets online in advance Purchase your ticket at fallriverma.gov or on the trolley using your smartphone to access the QR code. Tickets are valid all day.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under accompanied by an adult, and for a limited time, children 12 and under are free (but you’ll still need to reserve your free ticket if you buy your tickets online).
