NFL Thursday Night Football analyst and former Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence, authorities announced.
Sherman, 35, was arrested at 3:48 a.m. in King County, Washington, just below the Seattle metropolitan area, according to jail records. Officer Rick Johnson said the former player was arrested by the Washington State Patrol, adding that more details will be released once he is formally charged in the case.
According to those records, the Super Bowl veteran was booked into the King County Correctional Facility at 4:51 a.m. on a law enforcement complaint of DUI. No bond or bond was listed, and Sherman appeared to remain in jail Saturday night.
Washington State law defines drunk driving “Driving under the influence of intoxicated alcohol, marijuana, or other drugs” includes having a blood alcohol level of 0.08 or higher or more than 5 nanograms of active THC per milliliter of blood.
It was not clear whether the charges against Sherman involved alcohol, marijuana or other intoxicants. Lawyers who have represented Sherman in the past and the agency listed on the former player’s Instagram account did not respond to requests for comment.
In the summer of 2021, Sherman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, crashing his SUV into a construction zone, and attempting to break into his in-laws’ home in a Seattle suburb. The original case against him included charges of trespassing, driving under the influence and resisting arrest.
As part of an agreement with King County Superior Court following these incidents, he pleaded guilty in March 2022 to two misdemeanor charges: first-degree negligent driving and second-degree criminal trespass. The agreement includes continued court supervision until part of 2024, provided Sherman stays out of trouble, and a suspended 90-day jail sentence, with two days already served. Is recognized.
