“Dr. Phil” 2.0 has begun with a new primetime series set in Texas.

“Extra’s” Melvin Robert spoke with Dr. Phil about his new Merit Street Media network and the weight-loss drug craze that has been gaining traction after friends Oprah Winfrey, Kelly Clarkson and other celebrities have revealed they’ve used the drugs.

Phil wasn’t happy with headlines about stars “admitting” to using weight-loss drugs: “Admitting” implies some kind of cheating, like they’re confessing they’ve done something wrong. And besides, who cares about how someone manages their health?” he said.

“If someone is using the tools to get better, lose weight and reduce stress on their heart, that shouldn’t be criticized,” he added.

Dr Phil stressed that stars “don’t need to feel guilty” and that people should “focus on themselves.”

As for the Merit Street Media network, Dr. Phil said he’s “thrilled” by its success, “reaching into 90 million homes.”

The network already boasts stars such as Steve Harvey and Nancy Grace.

Dr. Phil is taking advantage of every opportunity to beef up his show, including adding professional bull riding in July. “Having live professional sports on the network is a real blessing for us,” he said.
