Ministry of Justice On Friday, former spokesmen for Robert Mueller and Jack Smith were fired. Jack Smith is the special advice of two people who have conducted a broad investigation into President Donald Trump in the department.
According to an email sent to reporters, Peter Kerr, who has worked at DOJ in media affairs since 2007, has been fired by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.
“I’ve just been informed by Doug that I’ve been let go, and it was a joy to work with you guys,” he wrote in an email entitled “My Last Email,” NBC News reported.
Blanche previously represented Trump in criminal cases against the president. This included a New York state lawsuit that ended with his conviction for forging business records related to a quiet payment of money to porn star Stormy Daniels.
CNBC requested comment on Carr’s firing from the DOJ.

Kerr served as a spokesman for Mueller during his first Republican term at the White House while investigating former FBI director Trump and others.
The Muller Probe focused on the issues of Russian interference in the 2016 election, whether Trump’s campaign was coordinated with Russia or its agents, and whether Trump thwarted justice that allegedly interfered with the investigation.
Mueller indicted nearly 30 people during the investigation, but did not charge Trump.
Mueller’s report found that Russia has repeatedly made efforts to interfere in the election, but no evidence found that Trump’s campaign officials had conspired with Russian agents in these efforts.
The report did not accuse Trump of obstructing him, but did not exonerate the president.
“We didn’t decide if ‘Trump’ committed a crime,” Mueller told reporters in May 2019.
But he also said, “If he had been certain the president had clearly not committed any crimes, he would have said that.”
Mueller said he could not consider whether to accuse Trump or not, and argued that accusing a sitting president was “unconstitutional.”
After Trump resigned in January 2021, Carr was a spokesman for Smith, whose investigation led to criminal charges against Trump in two cases.
Trump was charged in one of the crime cases related to his attempt to cancel his 2020 election defeat to former President Joe Biden.
Smith separately charged Trump with crimes related to maintaining classified government records after leaving the White House and with efforts to block federal officials from restoring documents stored at his residence at the Mar Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida.
These cases were dismissed at the request of the DOJ in late 2024 after Trump was elected for a second non-continued term as he barred Trump from prosecuting an incumbent president.
