Director Jon M. Chu told “Extra” just days ago that the baby could arrive “at any time,” but no one expected the bundle of joy to clash with his premiere. . other Baby, “Wicked” is one of the most anticipated movies of the year.
But on Saturday, as the Wicked cast celebrated the film’s release in Los Angeles, Chu was with his wife, Christine Hodge, who is giving birth to their fifth child.

Earlier in the day, Chu wrote on his Instagram Story: Today is the day I have been dreaming of for a long time. I was really happy to have two babies at once (a movie and a little girl). I will not be able to join you all for tonight’s Wicked premiere… There was a change of plans this morning around 4am…
“Sending all my love to the incredibly talented cast and crew tonight. They deserve it and a little extra special welcome to my little girl who is about to burst her bubble and come into our world. If she can have a fraction of the courage my wife @cynthiaerivo @arianagrande @michelleyeoh_official or @marissa_edob has, she too will defy gravity one day.”
Ahead of both arrivals, Chu told Extra: I have a new baby on the way, so my mind is focused on that. She could come any time. A little daughter is born. ”
He has since joked that he would not name her Galfaba, a combination of the names of Wicked characters Glinda and Elphaba.
“I can’t believe this happened during a movie premiere,” he wrote later that day. “Magic is in the air. Happy Premiere Day!! Welcome to our world, I’m sure things will go well. There are many witches by your side.”
Chew and Hodge are already parents to Willow, 7, Jonathan Heights, 5, Ruby, 3, and Iggy, 20 months.
