Decades-old dim sum restaurant in SF faces eviction

According to the development organization, City View Restaurant’s most recent lease runs from March 27, 2017 to October 31, 2022, and the restaurant’s owner was not offered an extension to renew the lease. Restaurants have had the option to do so before since the 1990s.

It is unclear when City View Restaurant will move out of its current home. But city planning records show that the restaurant’s owner had been planning to move to another Chinatown location even before filing the lawsuit. City View plans to take the first floor of 33 Walter U. Lum Place and open a new licensed 5,000-square-foot restaurant, according to city planning records. According to a permit dated December 28, 2022, City View Restaurant has already paid a significant amount to install a single-sided wall sign on the outside of its building.

SFGATE reached out to City View Restaurant and Chinatown Community Development Center for comment, but the publication did not respond.
