San Francisco dim sum outlet City View Restaurant faces eviction, according to a lawsuit filed by its landlord.

Chinatown Community Development Center, which owns the 662 Commercial Street property, filed a wrongful detainee action against City View Restaurants on January 12 after the restaurant’s lease expired in October 2022.

According to the development organization, City View Restaurant’s most recent lease runs from March 27, 2017 to October 31, 2022, and the restaurant’s owner was not offered an extension to renew the lease. Restaurants have had the option to do so before since the 1990s.

In addition to the eviction of the premises, the Chinatown Community Development Center will charge City View Restaurant a total of $145.84 per day from November 1, 2022, for “defendants to remain in possession until sentencing.” I’m asking you to pay me a dollar.



Another filing by the Cantonese restaurant owner claims it paid rent until January even though the lease ended. Claiming they took payment and didn’t return the check.

It is unclear when City View Restaurant will move out of its current home. But city planning records show that the restaurant’s owner had been planning to move to another Chinatown location even before filing the lawsuit. As reported by Now San Francisco The restaurant’s owner has submitted a planning application to move the City View Restaurant to the historic building once occupied by the Empress of China restaurant before it closed.

City View plans to take the first floor of 33 Walter U. Lum Place and open a new licensed 5,000-square-foot restaurant, according to city planning records. According to a permit dated December 28, 2022, City View Restaurant has already paid a significant amount to install a single-sided wall sign on the outside of its building.

SFGATE reached out to City View Restaurant and Chinatown Community Development Center for comment, but the publication did not respond.
