The San Antonio Spurs’ tough season took another unfortunate turn. Starpoint guard Dearon Fox was ruled out for the rest of the NBA season due to a finger injury requiring surgery. Another big step back of the Spurs
Fox’s injuries are the latest in a series of major blows for the Spurs. Last month, rising star Victor Wenbanyama was also closed for the season after being diagnosed with a deep venous thrombosis in his right shoulder. On top of that, legendary head coach Greg Popovich has been away from the team since November after suffering a mild stroke. So many important numbers came out, and the Spurs had to fight through adversity all year round.
Fox, which was acquired by the Spurs in February as part of a large three-team deal involving the Sacramento Kings and Chicago Bulls, is now in its fourth year of a five-year, $163 million contract. Despite his set-up, the team remains optimistic that he will return with full strength next season.

For now, the Spurs are sitting 12th in the Western Conference with a 27-37 record and have few playoff pushes. The team struggled in the last 10 games, leaving them just 3-7. Their greatest hope for the future lies in the upcoming NBA Draft Lottery. This is set for May 12th.
With Fox, Wembanyama and Popovich all unavailable, the rest of the season is about player development and future roster evaluations. This season is full of challenges, but the Spurs hope to reorganize in 2025, become healthy and come back strong.
