German leisure airline Condor will reduce its U.S. route map in 2025.

The airline notified four U.S. airports this week of its plans to cut seasonal nonstop flights from Frankfurt.

Next year, the airline will eliminate flights from its German hub to San Antonio International Airport (SAT), Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), and Minneapolis/St. Paul. Paul International Airport (MSP) and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX).

As part of the network overhaul, Condor will further cut two North American routes to Edmonton and Halifax, Canada.

Court ruling prompted change

As part of Germany’s antitrust regulations, the country’s flag carrier Lufthansa was required to allow Frankfurt-bound Condor passengers to seamlessly connect to Lufthansa flights. The regulation allows American passengers to access almost all of Germany by booking with Condor.

However, a recent German Federal Court of Justice ruling has overturned these rules, Condor said in announcing the route cuts.

“This is not a decision we make lightly,” Jens Boyd, Condor’s commercial director, said in a statement Monday. “We deeply regret any loss of connectivity and service this will cause.”

San Antonio loses only European services

It now appears that San Antonio passengers will not be able to fly non-Atlantic again in 2025 unless another airline announces service.

Currently, SAT only offers about six short-haul international flights to Mexico.

“We remain committed to expanding our direct flight service from SAT,” Airport Director Jesus Saenz Jr. said in a statement. “Our community has long asked for service to Europe, and last summer’s numbers proved we have a market where we can sustain non-stop service.”

Condor’s growth in the United States was interrupted

Total seat capacity between the U.S. and Germany increased by 50% in 2024 compared to 2023, according to data from aviation analytics firm Cirium. This comes after a 30% increase in the previous year.
