LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Nick Vankleek describes his mother, Stacey, as strong, kind and healthy.
“She’s very active. You’ll see her walking around the park somewhere and she’ll take about 20,000 steps a day. She loves pickleball,” Van Kleek said. Told.
That’s why the events of October 20 were so shocking, Nick says.
“My dad called me and I found out she was on her way to the hospital,” Van Kleek said.
Stacey was alone in her basement when she started having a headache and vomiting.
“She had a really bad headache. She knew it wasn’t a normal headache she’d ever had. So she called my brother, she called my dad, She then called 911, which saved her own life,” Van Kleek said.
Stacey was rushed to the hospital. It was then that she learned that she had suffered a hemorrhagic stroke, leaving a large amount of blood in her head.
“The hardest thing is, she’s the strongest person I know. And when I look at her and this vulnerable position, I’m like, this is not me, I have no words,” Van Kleek said. Told.
Throughout this difficult time, Nick says Stacey’s friends, family and strangers alike have rallied around her. They are currently raising money on her GoFundMe to help with her medical expenses.
“This kind of community support was unlike anything I had ever seen before. I know my mother was a very well-respected and well-liked woman.” Van Kleek said.
