Psaki told Kelly that in an August poll conducted by NBC, voters ranked climate change as the fifth most important issue, behind the economy, immigration and the cost of living.

She asked Kelly if he could argue that climate change is the most important issue, not the fifth.
“It’s an existential question,” Kelly said. “It’s a matter of people dying today.”

The former Democratic candidate told Psaki that 15 million people die each year from poor air quality and another 10 million die from extreme heat.

Kelly also said there would be more intensive weather events that would cost the country “a lot”.

Saki and Kelly are no strangers, having served as his spokesperson at the State Department during the Obama administration.

Last month, Kelly was interviewed by Yahoo News to challenge criticism of the leader flying private jets despite lofty climate change ambitions. He told Yahoo News that these people are “working harder” than others to fight climate change, echoing the arguments he had previously used in defense of private jet travel and the so-called carbon offsets. suggested that justifying such a high-carbon-footprint trip.

Despite championing fellow world leaders, Kelly has not opted to fly in a private jet since assuming his current position at the State Department. He notably flew commercials to both UN climate summits held during his tenure as climate envoy.
