The Bucks’ training camp won’t be here anytime soon, as the team feels tired of hearing stories that many expect Tampa Bay to fail this season. The best way to prove everyone wrong is to show it during daily practices and games. Perhaps that’s why wide receiver Chris Godwin attended every offseason session he could.

Starring Godwin rich eisen show This Thursday, I sent out a message to everyone who thinks the Bucks are at rock bottom by the end of the NFL season.

Chris Godwin doesn’t stand for skepticism

“All I know is that talk is cheesy,” Bucks wide receiver Chris Godwin said. “You guys get paid to talk. A lot of people pay you to speculate about the season, because that’s what you guys do. But the way I see it, if you guys look back just a year ago, we were projected to be one of the best teams in the league based on the talent we had on our roster. As we approached the end of the season, it was clear that it wasn’t just the sheer amount of talent that could be amassed. There’s a reason we play the game.”

“Things like that give me a sense of calm, because I know we have to go out there and do the job. No matter who’s playing, no matter who the quarterback is, no matter what kind of play is called, if the team doesn’t have the right chemistry and they’re not all working together and pulling the ropes in the same direction, it’s wasted.” You can join a talented team and win.

“I think it’s up to us to go out there and really put in the effort and it’s up to us to decide what the season will be like based on the kind of work we put in and how much dedication we put in. Whatever the outside story is, I’m thrilled with the opportunity and excited to work with them and see what we can work out.”

The Bucks still have great players

Chris Godwin is right about his comment that expectations don’t always translate into reality. The Bucks are once again a Super Bowl contender in 2022, but have announced that Tom Brady will return from a short-term retirement to play again while maintaining his main group.

But after starting 2-0, the Bucks struggled in the rest of the game, going 8-9. Tampa Bay won the NFC South and made a playoff game, but didn’t feel like they got much and were eliminated in the wild card round by losing 31-14 to the Dallas Cowboys in a never-close game.

So if the Bucks didn’t come close to their Super Bowl hopes last year, why can’t they exceed everyone’s expectations in the 2023 season?

Yes, there is a big question about who Baker Mayfield’s starting quarterback will be. Sure, it’s a big risk for Todd Bowles to hire a new offensive coordinator named Dave Canales, who has never called a play in the NFL before, especially when Bowles may be in the spotlight heading into this season.

But the Bucks still have premier players. There’s a reason they were able to re-sign defenders Labonte David and Jamel Dean. They aren’t even moving to revamp their offensive line Tristan Wirfs Leave tackle only for experimentation.

I suspect Bucks. It doesn’t affect what they can do if they perform to the best of their abilities.
