House Republican Proposal Raises Retirement Age, Transfers Medicare to Insurers, Cuts Medicaid

washington dc – Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) issued a statement today following the Republican Commission of Inquiry’s release of the budget proposal.

“The House Republican plan is a roadmap to doom for Americans trying to make ends meet, and it’s a testament to how Republicans continue to work to cut Medicare and Medicaid while allowing Social Security to shrink. It’s proof.” Mr Wyden said. “This plan should let all Americans know where Republican priorities lie: funneling wealth into tax fraud for megacorporations and the wealthy, and raising the retirement age to pay for medical benefits through Medicare.” Their plan is to lift the big pharma companies out of the crisis by stripping Medicare of its drug-price negotiating powers, which Democrats passed last year, leaving Medicaid to the bones. It cuts to the bone and threatens life-saving health care like the nursing home benefit programs our parents rely on. The House Republican plan is a disaster for working families, and I will oppose it every step of the way. ”
