Michelle Gudino, 17, was killed in a crash in Peoria on May 22. On Saturday, her classmates from Peoria High School held a car wash to raise money for her funeral.

PEORIA, Ariz. — Friends and classmates of a West Valley teenager killed in a Peoria crash in May came together Saturday for a car wash to raise money for her funeral.

Michelle Gudino, 17, was killed in a crash on May 22 near the intersection of Cholla Street and 75th Avenue in Peoria.

At the time, Peoria Police said the driver of a Chevrolet Avalanche was traveling south on 75th Street when he collided with a Toyota Scion that was making a left turn onto Cholla Street.

Police said the occupants of the Scion suffered serious injuries — one of them, Gudino, later died at a nearby hospital — and the driver of the Avalanche suffered minor injuries.

Two and a half weeks later, friends and classmates from Peoria High School got together to hold a car wash and raise money to help Gudino’s family with funeral expenses.

“I think the worst part was not doing anything,” Peoria High School teacher and football coach Doug Boamont said. “I mean, we all heard the news and we were just in shock and disbelief. But I think actually going out and doing something that we can help people start to heal or whatever it may be. I feel like anything that we can do, we’re doing something.”

“They’re winning by serving one another and sacrificing a little bit of their own time for the good of others,” said Jacob Holliday, Peoria High School’s assistant principal and athletic director. “And it shows everybody how much we love each other. This is what family does.”

Anyone who would like to help Guidino’s family can donate to the GoFundMe. click here.
