Continuing Education and Professional Studies at the University of Mary Washington has launched a series of seminars for local businesses and professionals to invest in developing leadership skills over a six-month period.

Vice Chancellor for Careers and Workforce Kimberly Young will lead the conversation at the first UMW Business Acumen series, “Meetings that Work,” held at the University Hall on the UMW Stafford campus.

The Business Acumen series consists of monthly one-day seminars aimed primarily at local businesses and organizations. Each scheduled event will feature business insights and leadership-related topics such as negotiating solutions, building a culture of innovation, and adaptive leader skills.

Organizations and individuals can sign up for one session or register for all six sessions. Each session has seating for up to 50 people and can be booked together for staff or entire teams. Fees are $275 per person per event and registration closes one week prior to event date. Group rates are also available.

“The Business Acumen Series is a unique opportunity for local organizations to advance their knowledge of business practices and innovate the skills to produce successful leaders within their communities,” said Kimberly, Associate Provost, Careers and Workforce at UMW. Mr Young said. “When you enroll your company in these seminars, you are giving your employees exceptional access to the university’s most talented professionals—resources not otherwise accessible.”

Led by expert instructors from MBA programs around the country, each seminar provides college-level knowledge and practical strategies for implementing it into your daily workflow, complementing employee training with region-specific lessons.
