The Buccaneers announced today that they have signed defensive tackle Brandon Matterson, an undrafted rookie free agent who spent most of the summer with the Denver Broncos.

Matterson played collegiately at the University of Texas at San Antonio from 2018-2023. meanwhile, He appeared in 59 games and recorded 101 total tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks, setting career highs in tackles for loss (6) and sacks (5) during his senior year.

Matterson joins a defensive line unit that looks pretty ready to go with the team facing off in a week. Felling date. The team will likely have no more than six inside defensive linemen. Five of those positions appear secured between Vita Via, Kalijah Kansey, Logan Hall, Greg Gaines and Will Gholston. CJ Brewer and Ernest Brown IV have performed well in camp and preseason and are vying for the sixth position. Matterson could slot in behind rookie Judge Culpepper, who many Buccaneers fans are excited about, as he is the son of former Buccaneers defensive lineman Brad Culpepper.

Buccaneers waive injured player

The team’s response was to place defensive lineman Eric Banks on injured reserve and waive his right to play. Banks played in the Buccaneers’ first preseason game, recording two quarterback pressures but no tackles. Prior to joining the Buccaneers, he played in six games for the Cardinals over three seasons from 2021-2023. Prior to his release, Banks was competing with Brewer and Brown for a roster spot.
