Bronnie James, the eldest son of NBA superstar LeBron James, has been diagnosed with “an anatomically and functionally significant congenital heart defect that can be and will be treated.” A spokesperson for the James family said in a statement Friday.

“We are very confident that Bronnie has made a full recovery and can return to basketball in the near future,” a spokesperson said. “We will continue to update the media and respectfully reiterate the family’s request for privacy.”

According to Johns Hopkins University and the Mayo Clinic, congenital heart defects are heart abnormalities (the heart or blood vessels near the heart fail to develop normally before birth) and are among the most common birth defects. There are several types of CHD, each with different effects on overall human health.

Bronnie underwent an initial evaluation at Cedars Sinai and a follow-up evaluation at the Mayo Clinic and Atlantic Health/Morristown Medical Center, according to a statement.

James, a freshman at the University of Southern California, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest on July 24 while exercising on the University of Southern California campus. He was admitted to the intensive care unit and has since returned to a stable condition.

The 18-year-old four-star rookie decided to join the Trojans in May after averaging 14 points, five rebounds and three assists in his senior season at Sierra Canyon (Los Angeles) School last season. . He has many selfish skills just like his father.
