President Biden on Monday called House Speaker Mike Johnson “dead on arrival” during a bizarre exchange with reporters.
The exchange came shortly after Biden called on Congress to impose term limits and codes of conduct on the Supreme Court. In a statement on Monday, Johnson slammed Biden’s proposal for “radical reform of the U.S. Supreme Court,” arguing that doing so would “imbalance power” and erode the rule of law.
“This proposal is the logical conclusion to the ongoing efforts by the Biden-Harris Administration and congressional Democrats to delegitimize the Supreme Court,” the Louisiana Republican argued. “Their calls to expand and staff the Supreme Court will soon be reinstated.”
“It’s indicative that Democrats want to change the system that has guided our country since its founding simply because they don’t agree with some of the Supreme Court’s recent decisions,” he added. “This dangerous gambit by the Biden-Harris Administration failed the moment it passed the House of Representatives.”

When a reporter asked Biden for his reaction after he arrived in Austin, Texas, on Monday afternoon, Biden gave a nonsensical response.
“Mr. President, Speaker Johnson says Supreme Court reform was ‘a failure from the start.’ What is your response, Mr. President?” a reporter asked.
“Who said that?” Biden responded.
“Chairman Johnson said he was ‘dead on arrival,'” the reporter repeated.
The president responded, “I think that’s exactly what he’s doing.”

When reporters asked for clarification, Biden doubled down on his defence.
“Yes. Dead on arrival,” he replied.
The president then said: [out] He explored “ways” to get the Supreme Court to pass radical reforms.
About an hour later, Biden clarified his remarks during the speech, explaining that he was referring to Johnson’s thought process.
“Whatever the Republican Speaker of the House proposes, [is] “It’s dead on arrival,” Biden told the audience. “His ideas are dead on arrival.”
