It’s time for the first Cotton Bowl of the New Year’s Six! I’m excited for this game because my team, the #9 Missouri Tigers, will be playing against a #7 Ohio State team that is rushing to adjust its lineup.
Ohio State, which missed the playoffs due to one loss in a must-win game against the University of Michigan, is undergoing major changes. QB Kyle McCord is headed to Syracuse, but there’s a big question mark over Marvin Harrison Jr., as he’s likely out to prepare for the draft. Despite the changes, the Buckeyes are not short on talent. With running back Tre’Vyon Henderson and tight end Cade Stover ready to go, and Devin Brown stepping up as quarterback, there’s still a chance they’ll score. Brown is new to the game, but he has the skill. He’ll be facing a Mizzou defense that’s hit and miss with passes, which could make things interesting.
Meanwhile, Missouri has secret weapons in Brady Cook and Luther Baden III. These two are his QB-WR connection that is dynamic and can stay active throughout the game. Even if Burden had double coverage, Missouri would plan a play to get the ball. He is probably the most athletic player on the field and can break open a game with one play. The player I’m most excited to watch is Cody Schrader. This guy is a workhorse RB who can run over 100 and catch over 50 if you don’t plan your protection correctly. I’ll be interested to see how Ohio State can stop him if they bring in new pieces.
moving the line
The betting lines are a roller coaster, starting at -6.5 Ohio State, dropping to -1.5 Mizzou, and now at -5 Ohio State. It reflects the uncertainty and adjustments both teams are making.
Missouri State has been underrated all season. They almost beat Georgia, coming off a solid win, but have also stumbled against top-tier teams (losing to LSU and Georgia). It’s a little controversial, but they’ve proven they can compete with the best.
Today’s Pick: +130 Single Game Parlay
Missouri +10.5
Cody Schrader 70+ yards rushing
Luther Baden 50+ receiving yards
These lines are set low to give us peace of mind, but I’m also going to play higher odds of 110+ and 80+, with Mizzou covering +5.5. I gave Mizzou the winning pick last week and I think they still keep this close. I’d love to win the pick that day, but I think Mizzou has the motivation advantage and will win the majority of the crowd and win the biggest bowl game for the school in a decade.
Optional SGP (+499):
Missouri +5.5
Cody Schrader 110+ yards rushing
Luther Burden 80+ receiving yards
