Belthangady, June 17: Tourists on Sunday thronged the Somanakadu valley area of Charmadi Ghat, which is home to waterfalls and other natural springs. Many tourists parked their vehicles in a manner that obstructed other motorists, creating a dangerous situation.
The picturesque view of Charmadi Ghat attracts many tourists. The small waterfalls and misty overcast skies provide the perfect setting to enjoy the natural beauty and cool weather. However, Charmadi Ghat is not safe as it was hit by a major landslide during the 2019 monsoon. Moreover, there is also the risk of wild elephants. At some curves, drivers cannot see oncoming vehicles due to thick fog. In such conditions, tourists park their cars carelessly, creating a danger.
Traffic was jammed at Charmadi Ghat on Sunday. Police chased away many tourists, but they often returned once the police vehicles were out of sight. Tourists were also engaging in risky activities like taking selfies, taking photos on slippery surfaces and trying to enter the waterfall. There should be a strict ban on parking of tourist vehicles on the ghat to avoid any major tragedies.
