The Bucks completely destroyed themselves offensively last week. Scored 40 points in Los Angeles, defeating the Los Angeles Chargers 40-17 It was an impressive victory in many ways, as the Bucks beat a quality team late in the season and put up big numbers against the league’s top scoring defense. There’s an argument to be made that this was quarterback Baker Mayfield’s best game of the year. He was rewarded for his efforts on Wednesday when it was announced that he won the NFC Offensive Player of the Week Award for Week 15.
Baker Mayfield Balls Out in LA
Baker Mayfield made a special contribution to the Bucks’ four-game winning streak, improving their season record to 8-6. He completed 22 of 27 for 288 yards and four passing touchdowns. Two of those goals were scored by future Hall of Famer Mike Evans, one by Jalen McMillan and one by Rashard White.
Baker Mayfield’s 135.5 passer rating was the highest of any quarterback that week. This was also true for his 81.5% success rate and 10.7 yards per attempt average. He had 25 rushing yards on two attempts. Everything Mayfield and the Bucs wanted to do to beat the Chargers, they were able to do. Tampa Bay didn’t punt the ball once in the game.
It’s been a career year for Baker Mayfield after signing a three-year, $100 million contract in the offseason. His 32 touchdowns are already a career high, ranking him third in the league in that category, as well as fourth with 3,617 passing yards on the year. There have been several times he’s played at an MVP level, including his performance in Week 15.
Baker Mayfield was named the first Tampa Bay player to win this season’s NFC Offensive Player of the Week, along with Bucs running backs Sean Tucker (Week 6) and Bucky Irving (Week 13). He should have an exciting opportunity to deliver an encore performance in Week 16 against the Cowboys at home in Texas in prime time on Sunday Night Football.
