APEX, N.C. (WNCN) — Two Apex middle school students had a very successful day at the North Carolina Science Olympiad Tournament.
Vatsalya Vishnoi and Daniel Loeffler, sixth grade students at The Math and Science Academy of Apex (TMSA Apex), both won first place in the competition.
The two competed against 40 teams of 7th and 8th grade students and won in the aerial trajectory category.

In this category, students must design, build, and calibrate a single device that can fire a projectile at a target, and collect data about the device’s parameters and performance.
“I couldn’t be more proud,” Principal Alden said. “Although we are in his second year and still in kindergarten through his sixth grade, our students are writing history. We are one of the best K-12 charter schools in the county. ,” Alden added.
Coach Khan said, “It was a tough start, but once everyone got into the groove, things started to settle down.” “A lot of effort, time and effort has gone into reaching the state competition. Without the help of my dear coach, Mrs. Maria, and my parents, I would not be running the Science Olympiad team today.” In the end, all the effort was worth it and I am so happy for the students’ success.”
