Your children are not safe, even in broad daylight. Last week, an Ecuadorian immigrant threatened a 13-year-old boy and girl with a knife in a park near their school in Queens, sexually assaulted the girl and then took her cell phone.

There is a solution.

In November, voters in New York City and around the world will have to choose between the Democrats’ open border policies and former Republican President Donald Trump’s promises to crack down on illegal immigration and deport millions of people in the country illegally.

Immigrant arrested after raping 13-year-old girl in broad daylight in New York park

But New York City voters should have another choice in November: either keep our insane “sanctuary city” laws that protect criminal immigrants from deportation, or repeal them, so that criminal immigrants can be deported on their first offense, before they even commit rape or murder.

Last week, eight New York City Council members sent a letter to the Charter Revision Commission, the body with the power to put the question on the November ballot, explaining that the City Council refuses to repeal sanctuary laws. If the City Council won’t act, it should be up to voters to decide.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has backed away from the issue, despite previously stating his support for cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Now, the mayor’s office says it’s up to the Charter Revision Commission to decide what ballot questions to put to New Yorkers.

That’s not true, Mayor. As the leader of your city, it’s your job to stand up to the crazy left on your City Council and support the deportation of first-time immigrant criminals.

The Ecuadorian molester was arrested Monday after well-meaning people recognized him from a sketch circulated by police. Jeffrey Flores pounced on the pervert and, with the help of others, pulled him to the floor. “I have two little sisters and I’m about to have a daughter,” Flores said of the assault. “I don’t want this.”

Across the country, brutal crimes have fueled protests against illegal immigration.

Rachel Morin murder: Illegal immigrant from El Salvador charged with raping, murdering Maryland mother of five

President Trump on Monday criticized President Joe Biden for the murder of Rachel Morin, a 37-year-old mother of five who was raped and murdered on a hiking trail in Maryland. Her nude body was found bludgeoned to death in nearby woods. The man charged is a 23-year-old illegal immigrant from El Salvador who previously murdered a woman in El Salvador and is also accused of raping a 9-year-old girl and her mother in Los Angeles.

While only a small percentage of immigrants are dangerous criminals, the immigration-industrial complex, which includes the American Civil Liberties Union, argues that criminals deserve protection from deportation even after they have committed a crime.

Biden is to blame for allowing ruthless criminals to cross the border, but sanctuary city laws are to blame for the rampant crime caused by hardened criminals.

Not to mention New York’s excessive generosity. The Ecuadorian mugger, like many arrested immigrants, listed the shelter as his address. He roamed Queens, enjoying a life of luxury at our expense, until he was found and arrested.

Michigan Republicans are renewing efforts to ban sanctuary cities statewide after an illegal immigrant killed 25-year-old Ruby Garcia in Grand Rapids in March. The illegal immigrant who confessed to the murder had been arrested multiple times. Republican Assemblyman Matt Hall explained that sanctuary laws “invite people with criminal records like Ruby’s killer to come to a place where they can avoid deportation if they are arrested for another crime.”

Amen.

When Biden and Trump debate next week, Biden is expected to denounce Trump’s deportation plan, which Substack’s Radley Balko slammed as “the cruellest, most illiberal, and most blatantly authoritarian campaign promise in modern American history.”

In fact, Trump’s pledge may be his most powerful political weapon, and it is the antithesis of authoritarianism: Deporting illegal immigrants is mandated by law enacted by the people’s elected representatives.

Under the Immigration and Nationality Act, people who cross the border seeking asylum are to be detained until their claims are adjudicated. Most don’t qualify — just 14% in previous years — but Biden is letting in millions of bogus asylum seekers.

Biden is an authoritarian, but ignoring public opinion is dangerous.

According to a CBS poll, 62% of registered voters support deporting people who are in the U.S. illegally.

President Trump has not yet announced a deportation plan, but deporting criminals is a first step, which will require cooperation from local law enforcement and an end to sanctuary city policies that pamper lawbreakers.

It is time to give refuge and safety to law-abiding members of the public, not immigrant criminals.
