LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Hollywood’s “For Your Consideration” (FYC) billboards adorn the city year-round, but glittering activations, displays and screenings aimed at garnering attention and votes for major awards ceremonies like the Emmys are becoming increasingly popular.
FYC’s efforts were slow last year due to the Hollywood strike, but the initiative is resonating in the industry post-strike.
During RuPaul’s Drag Race’s glamorous showcase, Emmy Award-winning costume designer Erica D. Schwartz spoke of the joy of seeing the costumes up close and hearing directly from their creators.
“Watching it on TV is great, but I think there’s something really special about having live theater and live dancing and seeing things come to life,” Schwartz said. Season 16 cast member Saphira Crystal noted that with or without awards, such events have educational value and can draw new viewers to the show.
In West Hollywood, a Disney exhibit featured popular shows like “Capote vs. the Swan,” “The Bears” and “Abbott Elementary,” with daily screenings and panel discussions focusing on a particular show.
Quiz Lady director Jessica Yu was pleased to be able to interact with the audience and see their reactions to the film.
“It’s great to be able to have an event just dedicated to Quiz Lady. Everything here is geared towards the content of the film. It’s great that audiences can watch the film in the theatre and it becomes a really communal event, which is so great, especially for a comedy,” Yu said.
Voting for the Emmy nomination round will run until June 24th, with nominations set to be announced on July 17th.
