A man was arrested and faces manslaughter charges after failing to detain a pit bull terrier who attacked and killed a 7-year-old girl in Louisiana on Friday, officials said.
East Baton Rouge resident Erick Lopez, 20, said his dog would often roam the neighborhood property where children were attacked, according to an arrest report obtained by CNN. I told my agent.
On January 6th, a dog wandered into a neighbor’s house where Sadie Davila was playing in the garden.
According to reports, the dog “viciously attacked” Sadie and continued to beat her even though the family tried to stop the attack by hitting the dog with a cane.
Sadie was taken to the hospital, where staff reported that the child had “several dog bites on the face and considerable skull damage that ultimately led to her death.”
When animal control officials caught the dog, they found it had blood on its face and around its mouth. It is unknown what will happen to the dog.
According to reports, Lopez admitted he was not present during the attack.
“This is a terrible, heartbreaking tragedy,” said East Baton Rouge Sheriff Sid Gautreau. Statement on Facebook“My heart goes out to this family and they remain in my prayers.”
