The highly anticipated and widely sold super-pink ‘Barbie’ movie has sparked a wave of interest in all things rosy. Accommodation is no exception.
“There is a desire to go to a pink hotel,” said Ron Sandel, general manager of the last-minute booking app. hotel tonight.
And they aren’t only found in iconic doll fantasyland. Pink hotels are usually located in tropical areas. Dak Kopech, an architectural psychologist and design professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, says the color was popular in 1920s and mid-century design. Kopech said he wouldn’t be surprised if travelers seek out pink hotels because Barbie dolls are having cherished moments in the sun.
“There is so much seriousness and frustration in society today, and I think people are looking for that kind of escape route,” he says.
