Kitchen appliances are constantly evolving to make our lives more convenient. If the technology doesn’t save you time, it won’t be high on your shopping list. We all remember items that were in our parents’ kitchens that we no longer need. These are labor-intensive devices, and while we can look back on them fondly, few of us are nostalgic for having used them.
1. Jello mold
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 2 jelly mold, cake, baking, copper, metal](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Jello-mold.jpg)
Jell-O’s molds may be old, but have they ever been replaced? This is an interesting entry because there was nothing that made making jelly easier. If anything, it means fewer people are consuming it, and the original Jell-O molds are obsolete and more of a decorative item.
2. Safety gas lighter
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 3 Safety gas lighter, wand lighter, grill, pilot light, fire](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Safety-Gas-Lighter.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 3 Safety gas lighter, wand lighter, grill, pilot light, fire](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Safety-Gas-Lighter.jpg)
These gadgets are still available, but I can’t imagine a market for them. When I was a kid, you turned on the gas stove, lit a match, and hoped for two things: the oven wouldn’t explode, and it wouldn’t get smokey. Enhanced safety lighters have made life easier, but now gas stoves provide the spark, making these devices unnecessary.
3. Overhead gas grill
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 4 overhead gas grill](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Oven.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 4 overhead gas grill](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Oven.jpg)
Gas ovens with an overhead grill are no longer produced, they are now integrated into the body of the device. I needed a safety lighter, but it made the best toast ever. If there’s anything that can take me back to my childhood, it’s these guys.
4. Hand whisk
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 5 hand crank mixer, whisk](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Hank-mixer.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 5 hand crank mixer, whisk](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Hank-mixer.jpg)
Crankwheel-powered whisks were all the rage in the 1970s. It was faster than other devices, but there were issues. I often had to steady the whisk with my non-dominant hand, which often led to confusion. The mixture slipped out of the bowl, leaving a sticky but delicious residue on the countertop.
5. Breadbox
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 6 vintage bread box](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Breadbox.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 6 vintage bread box](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Breadbox.jpg)
I still use a breadbox, but it’s nothing like the classic 1970s design with the plastic rollback cover. The bread is well protected and lasts a long time, but the bread box is make a listsome of us still think it has a place in the kitchen.
6. Metal ice tray
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 7 metal ice cube tray, cocktail, drink, liquor, alcohol, bartender, bar, party](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Metal-Ice-Cube-Tray.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 7 metal ice cube tray, cocktail, drink, liquor, alcohol, bartender, bar, party](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Metal-Ice-Cube-Tray.jpg)
In the days before plastic became mainstream, ice was made in metal trays. However, this gadget was short-lived. I don’t think the hands and fingers stuck to metal were the central selling point.
7. Stove kettle
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 8 Stove kettle, teapot](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Stovetop-Kettle.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 8 Stove kettle, teapot](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Stovetop-Kettle.jpg)
In the 1970s it was the only way to make tea and coffee. You fill the kettle with water, put it on the stove, flip the switch to start the gas, grab your safety lighter, and hope the kitchen doesn’t explode. The only part I miss is that satisfying whistle the kettle made when the water boiled.
8. Cookie press
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 9 cookie press](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Cookie-Press-.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 9 cookie press](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Cookie-Press-.jpg)
A press was a necessity. kitchen gadgets If you want cute and perfect cookies every time. Interchangeable heads allow you to bring different patterns to your party table. The cookie press was never replaced by more extraordinary technology, but cooks realized that the humble cookie cutter could do a better, cleaner job.
9. Hostess Trolley
![10 24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore hostess food warmer trolley](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Serving-Cart.jpg)
![10 24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore hostess food warmer trolley](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Serving-Cart.jpg)
Hostess trolleys were a famous prize on game shows in the 1970s and 1980s, and were also a luxury item at home. It was a status symbol that could transport hot food from the kitchen to the table. You can still buy a Hostess trolley, but the best models cost hundreds of dollars, which is one of the reasons their use fell out of use.
10. Butter dish
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 11 butter dish](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Butter-dish-1.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 11 butter dish](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Butter-dish-1.jpg)
Butter dishes were always the centerpiece of casual Sunday night meals. It still serves its purpose, but it has become obsolete. It’s also a pain to take the butter out of the package when the plate is empty.
11. Egg poaching bread
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 12 poached egg bread](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Poached-egg-pan.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 12 poached egg bread](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Poached-egg-pan.jpg)
There are many gadgets aimed at creating the perfect poached egg, but none of them will work if you don’t get the timing right. The egg poaching pan had an egg-shaped slot, but all you needed was a deep pot and boiling water. In modern times, the closest thing to a perfectly poached egg is in the microwave.
12. Tomato-shaped ketchup dispenser
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 13 tomato shaped ketchup dispenser](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Tomato-Shaped-Ketchup-Dispensers_.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 13 tomato shaped ketchup dispenser](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Tomato-Shaped-Ketchup-Dispensers_.jpg)
Nothing says 1970s kitsch better than this little kitchen gadget. These are a staple in British cafes, with fast food chain Wimpy also using tomato-shaped tomato sauce dispensers. It was made of plastic and unsanitary, but I would like to have it in my kitchen.
13. Meat tenderizer
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 14 meat tenderizer](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Meat-Tenderizer.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 14 meat tenderizer](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Meat-Tenderizer.jpg)
Early meat tenderizers, with metal spikes attached to rollers, resembled medieval torture devices. Its creepy appearance may have affected sales, and it’s much easier to use a mallet or rolling pin instead.
14. Soda Siphon
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 15 soda siphon](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Soda-Siphon.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 15 soda siphon](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Soda-Siphon.jpg)
There used to be a soda siphon next to every bar. If you’re a trusted patron, the staff will even let you pour drinks. Unfortunately, they were also valuable in water battles, but have now been replaced by soda guns. Soda guns are kept under the counter and are strictly for staff use only.
15. Drink Master
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 16 drink master](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Mixer.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 16 drink master](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Mixer.jpg)
Soda siphons thrived in the days when DrinkMaster was doing everything. When I say “everything” I just mixed the drinks. Although the design resembled a sci-fi futuristic kitchen, the item was too large for most homes. But DrinkMaster looks cool.
16. Juicy Sarif Lemon Squeezer
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 17 juicy sarif lemon squeezer](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Juicy-Salif-Lemon-Squeezer__.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 17 juicy sarif lemon squeezer](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Juicy-Salif-Lemon-Squeezer__.jpg)
If you have this item in your home, you may be seen as showing off.Features of Juicy Sarif Lemon Squeezer classic design It’s a Philippe Starck product and at that price it’s unnecessary as a kitchen tool. A friend has one of these stored in a display cabinet and has never been used.
17. Wall-mounted can opener
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 18 wall mounted can opener](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Wall-Mounted-Can-Openers.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 18 wall mounted can opener](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Wall-Mounted-Can-Openers.jpg)
While they may have seemed convenient, wall-mounted can openers had one major design flaw. Equipment would frequently come loose and spray cans and contents all over the kitchen. Cans with ring pulls are common, but handheld openers are significantly better than earlier designs.
18. Punch Bowl
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 19 punch bowl](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Punch-Bowl.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 19 punch bowl](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Punch-Bowl.jpg)
Them classic frat boy movies Without the iconic punch bowl, which was regularly spiked, we would have lost an important prop. No one uses punch bowls these days. Instead, the cocktail is poured directly from the shaker into a glass.
19. Egg separator
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 20 egg separator](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Egg-separator-.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 20 egg separator](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Egg-separator-.jpg)
An egg separator is a strange looking device. It is shaped like a spoon with a gap. As the name suggests, it is used to separate the whites and yolks of eggs. It’s easy to do this using eggshells, but it’s a bit tedious, so an egg separator might come in handy in modern kitchens.
20. Nut grinder
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 21 nut grinder](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nut-Grinder.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 21 nut grinder](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Nut-Grinder.jpg)
There were all sorts of different designs of equipment for crushing nuts. The most common version was similar to a meat mincer, but much smaller. Nowadays, when we spend less time in the kitchen, the easiest way to do this is to crack nuts with a hammer.
21. Store your scale
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 22 scale](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Store-Scale.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 22 scale](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Store-Scale.jpg)
Home cooks in the 1970s and 1980s didn’t have the luxury of a digital scale. Instead, they responded with larger products that resemble grocery store scales. In the electronic age, modern scales allow us to weigh ingredients more accurately and free up space in our cupboards.
22. Foley Folk
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 23 foley fork](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Foley-Fork.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 23 foley fork](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Foley-Fork.jpg)
Foley forks are a product of kitchen folklore; it is said Apparently, the famous TV chef Julia Child used it in her mashed potatoes. This is her six-tooth fork, which is now a classic design, even if it is a useless item compared to today’s gadgets.
23. Tea, coffee and sugar containers
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 24 tea, coffee and sugar containers](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Canisters.jpg)
![24 Worst Kitchen Appliances No One Uses Anymore 24 tea, coffee and sugar containers](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Canisters.jpg)
I was disappointed to learn that these are considered outdated kitchen appliances. I have tea, coffee, and sugar holders at home, but I noticed they were sitting unused in the cupboard under the sink. The rise of tea bags and coffee machines hastened its demise.
24. Fondue set
![The worst kitchen gadgets no one uses anymore 24 25 fondue set](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Fondue-Set.jpg)
![The worst kitchen gadgets no one uses anymore 24 25 fondue set](https://wealthofgeeks.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/Fondue-Set.jpg)
Another gadget that doubles as a time machine, the fondue set can transport you back to the 1970s. He was another classic game show prize, but who has enjoyed fondue outside of Switzerland in the last 20 years?
