Zach Wilson’s girlfriend is excited about the quarterback’s next NFL chapter.
Hours after news broke on Monday that the former first-round pick was traded from the Jets to the Broncos as part of a late pick swap, Nicolette Delano took to her Instagram Story to celebrate her boyfriend’s move to Denver. Ta.
Delano reshared a post from the NFL’s Instagram page highlighting Wilson’s trade and added three orange heart emojis to his Story in homage to the Broncos’ colors.
Like Delano, the New Jersey-raised model who was first rumored to be a quarterback in 2022, Wilson’s family reacted with glee to Monday’s news. The news comes less than two months after Jets general manager Joe Douglas authorized a trade for Wilson.
“Excited for a new start. Let’s go!” Wilson’s mother, Lisa, posted on her Instagram Story a picture of her 24-year-old son in a Broncos uniform.
She added in another post: [that] I love you, I support you, and I want you to succeed. ”
Wilson, who was drafted No. 2 overall in 2021, has had an eventful tenure in New York.
He had a 12-21 record with the Jets.
After the Jets acquired future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers from the Packers, he was expected to play again in 2023, but the four-time league MVP suffered an Achilles tendon injury just four plays into his career with the Jets. Due to the tear, Wilson will be out from Week 1.
Wilson was benched late in the season, but returned in Week 14 in a dominating 30-6 win over the Texans, giving perhaps his best performance as a Jet.
He started the following week against the Dolphins, but left early with a head injury in a 30-0 loss.
This will be Wilson’s last game in a Jets uniform.
Wilson, who is now a member of the Broncos, was acquired from the Jets for a seventh-round pick (No. 256) and from the Jets for a sixth-round pick (No. 203), but the quarterback position was in dispute. He will be joining an organization that has many questions.
The Broncos have journeymen Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci, but Denver is widely expected to be among the quarterback options as the 2024 NFL Draft begins Thursday.
Former Oregon quarterback Bo Nix could be targeted with the No. 12 pick, as the Post’s Steve Serby predicts in his latest mock draft.
