There’s a new way to use it American Airlines A Advantage Miles on a flight to Hawaii.
Starting this week, AAdvantage members can now redeem miles for flights on Hawaiian Airlines between the continental United States and Hawaii.

For example, consider the longest domestic flight in the United States, the Hawaiian Airbus A330’s nonstop flight from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL). This February itinerary would be 35,000 AAdvantage miles.
Or, fly from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Honolulu on Hawaiian for 22,500 AAdvantage miles each way.
It’s worth noting that for both of the itineraries above (and several others I searched), only main cabin redemptions were available. So, for example, if you want to use your AAdvantage miles for a business class seat on Hawaiian Airlines, you may have to be a little flexible. Brand new Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Expanding ties between the United States and Hawaii
America partnering with Hawaii is nothing new. The brands previously had a more limited loyalty partnership that allowed U.S. loyalty loyalists to redeem AAdvantage miles for short-haul interisland flights on Hawaiian Airlines.
But now, it appears the relationship between the two airlines is deepening even further, with Hawaiian Airlines officially announcing Partnered with Alaska Airlines In the latest merger in the US airline industry. Alaska had already become a full-fledged partner of the United States through its OneWorld alliance.

As of Tuesday, AAdvantage members can redeem miles on all flights operated by Hawaiian Airlines and booked through the American Airlines website.
If you’re a frequent U.S. flyer looking to redeem miles on flights between the mainland U.S. and Hawaii, this means you’ll have more flight options to choose from.

Revenue remains limited
Despite the expanded ability to redeem AAdvantage miles on Hawaiian Airlines-operated flights, there are still significant earning limitations on paid tickets.
AAdvantage members can earn “bonus miles” on flights marketed and operated by Hawaiian. Bonus AAdvantage miles do not come with loyalty points. So flying on Hawaiian still won’t help you reach your goal. AAdvantage Elite Status.
However, the Hawaiian brand is expected to join the Oneworld alliance as part of its integration into the Alaska Airlines Group, which could lead to a closer relationship with American Airlines in the future.
Even if you don’t have a lot of AAdvantage miles in your account, there’s another easy way to accumulate Hawaiian miles. American Express Membership Rewards will be transferred to Hawaiian on a 1:1 ratio.
