Yankees right-hander Domingo German was ejected from New York’s 6-3 victory over the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Here’s what you should know:
- Gelman was examined by each of the umpires before the fourth inning and was found to be in possession of illegal drugs.
- The 30-year-old pitched three scoreless innings and struck out two before being ejected.
- Gelman spent six MLB seasons with the Yankees, posting a 4.34 ERA and a 28-24 record.
- and pool report interview After the match, crew chief James Hoye said Gelman’s hand was “the most tenacious hand I’ve ever felt.”

What this means for the Yankees
Gelman had extra sticky stuff on his hands just over a month ago when he started against the Twins and struck out a career-high 11 hitters in 6 1/3 innings. Underwent a detailed inspection. Gelman was allowed to continue pitching in the game because the referees allowed him to wash his hands.
The Yankees said it is rosin and is legal as long as it is not overused or abused. Now, Germain will be sent off for Tuesday’s game and will be suspended for 10 games.
The Yankees can’t sign a roster in Germain’s place, but they could easily name relief pitcher Ryan Webber for the quota or call up starters from the minor leagues if they wanted. The Yankees have a day off this Monday, so the team will only need to remove Gelman from their next rotation.

Are there further reasons to be concerned?
In addition, relief pitcher Ian Hamilton dropped out with two outs in the third inning. Hamilton walked away with his trainer, which is a bad sign.
The Yankees have yet to say what was wrong with Hamilton, but the 27-year-old can’t afford to lose his right arm. he was a revelation. Hamilton, who joined big-league spring training as a non-roster invitee, led the charge with a funky “Slumbio” curveball and came Tuesday with a 1.27 ERA in 15 appearances.
The Yankees’ bullpen has already been devastated by injuries to Jonathan Loaisiga, Tommy Carnley and Lou Trivino. The starting staff is also devastated. They need to know good news about Hamilton. Otherwise, general manager Brian Cashman would have to comb through the Triple-A roster for a replacement.
“(Hamilton) is going to be a little bit down,” manager Aaron Boone told reporters after the game. “Let’s see. I think he’s going to go back to New York.” — Kuti
What can you tell from a Gelman spin amount?
Gelman’s spin amount didn’t increase much. Within normal game-to-game variation, when a pitcher’s standard deviation among starts is around his 150 RPM, it was at least about a 50-60 RPM increase over the season average. And this point is the point of Spins, which explains why using his rate alone isn’t a great way to enforce a ban on sticky stuff.
I know he was forced to wash his hands before, but I don’t know when or what. So there are no easy standards to set for pitchers. If we had only looked at how much spin he had at the start today, we wouldn’t have flagged Gelmann for further testing. — Salis
what they say
“His hands were visibly shiny, both palms and fingertips,” Hoye said. “The moment I saw his hand, it was very shiny and very sticky. It was the stickiest hand I’ve ever felt.
“It wasn’t rosin… I’ve touched my hands with rosin and it definitely wasn’t rosin. It was very sticky. Rosin is usually a little sticky. It was sticky. My fingers struggled to get off his palm.”
“Obviously not OK,” Boone told reporters. “We also talk about what the line is. It’s Domingo’s responsibility to make sure he’s in a better position there… the reality is we all need to know what the line is, but apparently Domingo crossed it tonight. It seems.”
Asked if the substance was rosin, as the Yankees said in April’s start against Minnesota, Boone said: You see, they’re comparing hands all the time, and of course there’s nothing on one side. No tackle. I don’t know what line it is. He just said it was too sticky. That was the explanation. ”
Gelman explained through an interpreter: There are two types of rosin bags. There are rocks and sand. I use sand. A few games ago, I was told that I wasn’t using it enough on the mound. Finished using it tonight on the mound.
“I also wanted to say that I have to apologize to my teammates and the team.
