time. That doesn’t seem to be enough. It always seems too fast (and every year it just seems to move faster).
Time is what people always tell me that it’s not enough and is one of the main reasons why they don’t travel as much as they want. (Money is also a problem, I talked about it here. )
There are more but Digital Nomad And now, not everyone can work remotely, as Covid has changed the concept of offices.
But even if they don’t want to be nomadic, most people I know from office work (especially Americans) want to travel more than they do. They feel like they don’t have time.
They’re wrong.
This is why.
Let’s say you work 50 weeks a year and take two weeks off. (Aren’t you American? If that’s the case you probably get more, that’s great.) Count your vacation hours and count every weekend and you can move your total annual number of days to 110 (104 days of weekends and 10 days of 2 weeks of vacation). It’s a lot of time on the trip. Throw 3 days of weekends and holidays. You can add more days to the total. It may not all be continuous, but you can do a lot in so many times.
For that, consider 110 or more days of free time per second per year. It’s nearby 4 months Of potential travel times for the year! 4 months! The world is your oyster.
Looking at it like this will make your busy schedule even more open. What are you doing at the time?
Everything is about priorities. Yes, our daily lives have certain obligations that take time, but if we really want something, we find a way to make it happen. It’s like when you say you don’t have time to go to the gym. I have Many Time to go to the gym. I’m just spending that time elsewhere.
Because gyms are not a priority for me (though it should probably be).
Plus, most people associate “travel” with long-term, large, expensive trips, so they discount all short-term travel methods. When people think, “I want to travel.” They imagine a two-week holiday, a cruise, or a few long months of journeys. It’s a big trip to far away land.
It’s not their fault really. It’s the way the travel industry tells us we need to travel, as it means people spend more money on long trips. It internalizes that concept and does not take into account other options.
And if you hear something enough, you believe it. I used to. the Why Jessica doesn’t go to Ireland? and I’ll always hate Bob.
But if Covid has taught us anything, it means there’s a lot to look at and do. Even if you haven’t traveled for a few months, as we have seen, you still have a potential trip of 110 days a year. If you make it a priority, you can certainly travel more.
But what do you do? Can we visit smaller time scales that still have a big impact? Below are some travel ideas that will help you plan your trip when you are limited.
1. Take a weekend holiday
Have a weekend somewhere. Two days aren’t that long, but it’s still enough to explore a city, town or camp in a national park near you. I used to spend a lot of time New York City. From there, weekends include trips to Atlantic City, Firelands, Hampton and Berkshire. Boston, Philadelphiaand Washington DC – And they are a few hours away!
Try to incorporate more of your weekend trips. It will break your routine and help you keep your wanderlust in till your next big trip. Someday, even a few days, nothing better than anything else!
2. Go nearby
Have you only had one week? Don’t travel around the world on the way. I’ll go a little further away.
I live in Miami Fiji Is it too far? Heading to Central America!
Is it too far between Sydney and Los Angeles? Stop by Hawaii on the way to visit new zealandor jump into the Pacific Islands country!
In Europe? Well, 90% of the continent is a 3 hour flight, so you’re set up!
Staying nearby means less time is needed to do what you want to do. Plus, the best flight deals you can find are often for your nearest destination. So it’s flexible.
Places you’ve never been to are good places to visit.
And when you travel, fewer is always more.
3. Become a local tourist
I don’t think people are tourists in their town. How often do you visit the museum, explore new areas of your town, or visit the major attractions of your city? I know a New Yorker I’ve never had I’ve been to MetBostonians who never own one I walked the Freedom TrailAnd Amsterdamer has never wandered through the red light district.
Get on the weekend, leave your home and move to a cheaper place to stay, and become a tourist. I love playing tourists in my city. Because it helps you learn and understand where you came from.
There is so much around you, so perhaps when you are busy living your normal life, when you stop and look for a moment, you can find plenty of exciting activities to fill your time.
After all, travel is about seeing and learning new things. It could be done in your own backyard!
Important: If you’re going to do this, it feels like a holiday as it will stay in a place that isn’t your home. Otherwise, it’s fascinating to wake up, do some errands, and “use up time.” For this to actually work, you need to break your routine – not staying in your home is important to do it.
4. Maximize your time
Don’t try to see everything in the sun. I’m running too much. I send lots of emails from people who want to see half Europe You want to conquer everything in South America in two weeks or a month.
When you think that’s how you try to travel and stuff everything, it’s easy to put a strain on your itinerary. You see all of those destinations, find yourself overwhelmed and not having enough time, give up and refrain from “having” time.
I would like to see a lot as you don’t have much vacation, but don’t! Stick to just one or two places and suddenly there will be plenty of time and opportunity open up! You won’t be able to see it all. Even with my open schedule, I still can’t see everything I want. I stopped trying a long time ago. There are many fewer things on travel. Quality rather than quantity.
You may not have been on a trip for months, but that doesn’t mean you can’t travel at all. There are many ways to get out Travel the world on a budget You don’t need to be a nomad like me. Telling yourself that you don’t have time is just an excuse.
You have time, and you can Learn skills for better travel. The problem is that you probably don’t think of a way to spend that time beyond the typical “two-week holiday.”
The next time you feel like you don’t have time, consider that you can explore all the nearby locations. Yes, there are some things that require running errands and caution. But by using your time productively, prioritizing travel and thinking outside the box, you can find you do You have time to explore the world.
Travel is about exploration, and its exploration can occur anywhere and everywhere.
