The new Netflix series, “Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer,” tells the tragic story of a sex worker whose body is found in Gilgo Beach.
A desperate 911 call made by Shannen Gilbert then led to a horrifying discovery by Long Island police at her loss of failure. Ten bodies were found with all sex workers found. This suggests that the serial killer is loose.
The wreckage was discovered in 2010 and 2011, but Rex Human, a family man from Manhattan architect, was not arrested and was charged with seven murders until 2023. He has entered into a plea of innocence and is currently awaiting trial.
Liz Garvas directed the 2020 Netflix film Lost Girls and is currently behind the new series Gone Girls.
She said, “I knew these families, I knew the sisters, I knew the mother. Something was going on in Suffolk County. They couldn’t get the answer.”
It is widely believed that there is something rotten in the department, starting with Suffolk County Police Chief James Burke, who led the department from 2012 to 2015.
“There was a claim that it was called the misdemeanor murder of these young women, not a serious crime, meaning that these women are disposable.”
It wasn’t until the election of a new district attorney in 2022 that attitudes toward murder changed.
Garvas said, “When Da Ray Tierney took over in Suffolk County… it had a name in six weeks. It was based on what has been in the file for over ten years.”
The case broke, and one suspect came to the top of the list… the married father of two Rex Humans. The killings allegedly happened when his family was leaving town, and police say he hid the systematic blueprint of a murder plot underground.
“They dumped the crust in New York City and then picked up DNA from Rex Human,” Garvas said.
She said, “After the arrest was made, I contacted you. [the families to] Congratulations to them, I began to realize I wanted to do this chapter with them. ”
That chapter became the new Netflix series, “Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer,” which will be streaming on March 31st.
Garvas had this message to viewers. “I hope that anyone who is missing will take away all the victims of what makes them so much more similar than you.”
