The White House blocked Associated Press reporters from an event in the oval office on Tuesday after President Donald Trump requested a change in the style of the Gulf of Mexico, which he ordered the rename of the US Gulf.
The reporter tried to attend the White House event as usual on Tuesday afternoon and was turned away, an Associated Press official said. Unless Associated Press changes the style of the Bay, the very unusual ban threatened by Trump administration officials on Tuesday could have meant constitutional free speech.
Julie Pace, senior vice president and executive editor at the Associated Press, called the administration unacceptable.
“We are wary of the Trump administration’s punishment of the Associated Press with independent journalism,” Pace said. In a statement. “Restricting access to an oval office based on the content of the AP’s speech not only severely hinders public access to independent news, but is clearly a violation of the initial revision.”
The Trump administration did not immediately announce the move, and there was no indication that other journalists had been affected. Trump has long been hostile to the media. On Friday, the administration discharged a second group of media outlets From the Pentagon office space.
AP Styles are not just used by agents. AP Stylebook relies on thousands of journalists and other authors around the world.
The president would require that the press comply with an order that changes content, which appears to be in violation of the initial amendment to the US Constitution. This prohibits the government from hindering the freedom of the press.
Before taking office on January 20th, Trump announced plans to change the Gulf of Mexico to the “American Gulf,” and signed an executive order as soon as he took office. The Mexican president responded with irony, others said the name change would probably not affect global use.

This week, Google Maps said there is a “long-standing practice” that begins using the “Gulf of America” and follows the US government’s initiative on such issues. Another major online map provider, Apple Maps, was still using the Gulf of Mexico.
AP I said last month, Three days after Trump’s inauguration, it will continue to refer to the Gulf of Mexico, while continuing to focus on the decision to change Trump’s name. As a global news agency that promotes news from around the world, the AP says it must make it easy for all viewers to recognize their place names and geography.
Trump also ordered that the Alaska mountain, known as Mount McKinley, and its Native American name Denali, be returned to commemorate the 25th President. President Barack Obama had ordered the name to be renamed Denali in 2015. The AP said last month that it would use a formal name change for Mount McKinley. Because the region is only in the US, Trump has the authority to change the federal geographical name within the country.
