One content creator accused Vital Farms of greenwashing the public with its marketing strategy. And now another customer is coming forward with his own advice to stay away from the dairy company, and “pasture-raised” eggs in general.
What happened to Vital Farm?
In a video posted on Oct. 3 that now has more than 85,000 views, TikTok user Grace (@sweeneysaysso) gives her two cents about the company’s practices.
Grace, a former employee of the American Egg Board, explains that it’s not a good idea to buy eggs based solely on Vital Farms’ “grass-fed” marketing.

She argues that there is no benefit for companies to say their products are cage-free or organic because the term is not overseen or vetted by the Department of Agriculture. So just because an egg brand claims their chickens are “pasture-raised,” it doesn’t mean the chickens are free-roaming.
“It doesn’t mean anything. It’s not regulated,” Grace explains. You’ll find this term on the outside of every Vital Farms egg carton.
Grace also shares that whether you buy expensive eggs at the grocery store or affordable eggs at the grocery store, the nutritional value is the same.
She hints that the high prices that pasture-free brands charge for their products are unnecessary.
“I’m not surprised by the lawsuit regarding Vital Farms,” she quipped in the video.
Purchasing eggs from companies that use humane practices to obtain their products has become a major priority for shoppers. The comments section is filled with consumers sharing their concerns about the possibility that the claims against Vital Farms are true.
“I’ve been hoping that vital farms don’t let us down. We don’t need special nutrients, just less violence and suffering,” one user shared.
“This is so depressingly informative,” another commented.
“I just want to buy eggs from chickens that are treated with care,” said a third person.
Has Vital Farms responded to the backlash? What is the Vital Farms lawsuit?
In 2021, dozens of concerned consumers decided to join the PETA Foundation in filing a class action lawsuit against Vital Farms.
