Veteran Washington Post columnist Barry Svruga said during the Washington Nationals-New York Yankees series in the Bronx last week that Steven Strasberg has spent years trying to overcome injury and return to the mound. After that, it was reported that he will announce his retirement on September 9th. in the capital of this country.
Strasberg, 35, has been unable to overcome nerve problems in his right arm, and the pitcher and team hoped he would recover with thoracic outlet surgery in 2021.
The 2009 No. 1 overall pick started just eight games and threw just 31 pitches. 1⁄3 innings after contributing to the victory of the club world series 2019 (He signed a new seven-year, $245 million contract in the winter after winning the Fall Classic. He tried to resume his activities this spring, but suffered repeated setbacks and was forced to suspend his activities.

“Strasberg continues to battle ‘severe nerve damage,’ according to three people with knowledge of his situation,” Svrulga wrote, noting how Strasberg still interacts with nerve problems in his daily life. I pointed out that I was struggling with
“He has struggled with routine tasks like picking up his young daughters and opening a door with his right hand. Go out to rehab 3 times in front [a] Final start in Miami — Strasberg’s hands were so completely paralyzed that he could not stand for long. To deal with it, he would sleep on his side and press his hand to his chest. ”
While the report seemed fairly conclusive, there are still issues (many $$$$) to be resolved before the news is officially announced. Director Davey Martinez said he declined to comment on it after the story first came out.
Scherzer also spoke about Strasberg’s retirement. He said hugging Strasberg in the clubhouse after winning the World Series will always be one of the happiest memories of his life.

“For the sake of Strasberg and his family, I am not going to comment on what is going on,” Martinez said. “All I know is that he means a lot to me, to this organization, and to the fans, so I’ll leave it at that.”
