Patrick Corbin, who was the last pitcher of the first half, pitched 91 pitches at home in Washington, D.C., and allowed the Texas Rangers to five hits, one walk, six strikeouts, and one run in seven innings on the mound.
Corbin continues good start with 5 1⁄3 He threw an inning on the mound against the Cubs at Wrigley Field in Chicago, allowing 6 hits, 1 walk and 3 earned runs, and suffered a come-from-behind loss.
His manager, Davey Martinez, liked the look of the left-hander, who had recently turned 34, in both matches.
“His fastball was in good position,” Martinez said after the start against the Rangers.
“His slider was really good early on.
There was a part where he started to pick up in the zone, but Martinez said he liked how the starter was calm and was able to redo what went well.
“It kind of bothered me. But then he calmed down and started throwing strikes in the zone again.”
Martinez said he would love to see Corbin build up to last night’s season opener. Colorado Rockies in the capital of this country.
“He’s had a really good game,” Martinez told reporters. “I hope he keeps coming out and competing. I mean, he’s throwing the ball well. As we all know, last weekend we had some young guys throwing and they did well, so it would be great if he came out and gave us a chance to win.”
Corbin gave the Nationals 6 points 1⁄3 inning,(there he threw 93 pitches), however, suffered a tough start, going 10-6 with 10 hits, 2 walks, 6 runs and 5 earned runs.
Overall, Corbin produced 12 swing strikes, 9 of which were sliders (he threw it 39% of the time), and 10 cold strikes, 6 of which were sinkers (34%). But as MASN’s Mark Zuckerman pointed out, 10 hits allowed has been part of the southpaw’s trend in recent years as he struggles to replicate the numbers he set in the 2018-19 season.
It’s the 14th time since 2020 that Patrick Corbin has allowed 10 or more hits in a start. No other MLB pitcher allowed more than five times during this period.

“It looked bad, but it wasn’t that bad,” Martinez said of Corbin’s start in a 6-10 loss. “Early hits, a lot of bleeding, a few ground balls that went in. The only bad pitch for me was a home run. [by Nolan Jones in the sixth], left the slider inside the zone. But you know, walks and leadoffs [walk] It was big too. “
“He was going there early on,” Martinez added of Corbyn’s dismissal of the first six hitters at the start. “I thought he threw a good ball. Like I said, he gave a few bleeds and then hit some good bases and before we knew it we were behind.”
The three-game winning streak ended with a loss to the Rockies.
“We made some mistakes,” Martinez said. “We made some mistakes that weren’t typical of us.
“Tomorrow we have to come back. The good thing is we started swinging the bat there at the end, because we’ve been swinging the bat really well. The bat came alive, it wasn’t good enough for us, which means we conceded a lot of runs.
“So forget about this and we have to come back tomorrow. We played well, come back tomorrow and let’s go 1-0 tomorrow.”

Victor Robles returned from a 34-game absence, playing five games from June 16-20, but was sidelined again on the 21st when he returned to IL with the same problem.
“I spoke to him last night,” Martinez said after his return to the injured list was announced.
“He had to stress that he needed to be honest with me. And he said it bothers him to run because it hurts a bit. It doesn’t bother him to hit, it bothers him to run. So it’s still the same now. Lumbar back spasm.
In 36 games and 126 at-bats this season, Robles has batted .299/.385/.365 with five doubles, 11 walks and 18 kicks, but has played in just five games since returning to IL on May 6.
Even if he wasn’t scheduled to play, returning to the capital on Monday put a smile on the manager’s face.
“He’s here,” Martinez said. “We wanted him back. [from West Palm Beach]. He’s going to start working out with us. Florida has a lot of guys right now, I want to start looking at him, I want to see if I can cheer him up a little bit, but he’s still in rehab and working on practices. [AlterG] The machine is running a little. But he said he felt better, which is a great sign. “

“I talked to him a bit in my office and he said he felt a lot better. We could send him on a rehab mission here and have him play again.”
Martínez said they are very cautious about recruiting center fielders given the fact that they suffered a setback last time.
“I’m definitely going to take my time this time,” Martinez explained.
“But he feels good. He’s doing a lot of different exercises to strengthen his core and take some pressure off his back. So I hope everything goes well.”
