Davey Martinez has apologized to his long-awaited fans. They wanted to give the ground staff a chance to make the infield playable, he said, but that was not possible because the infield got wet while playing the top of the third inning in the rain. He felt that the player’s safety was threatened.

Davey Martinez driving to Nationals Park:
“I was driving here today,” said Davey Martinez of his regular commute to Nationals Park. Because he couldn’t see his name. But watching them just run around and catch balls and dads throwing them at them helps me see things objectively. And I said it was like ‘wow’ to me. I go to the stadium to play a baseball game. Go see them play. And for me it was a lot of fun. I almost stopped my car.
“But I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’ll never get what’s ours here. If that happens, I’m going to be in big trouble.'” But I just wanted to go see the game.
“For me, it’s fun. But it was so great that I wanted to share it.”
Bad trends for NYM:
Starting with a run in the bottom of the first inning this afternoon, the New York Mets starter has allowed a run in the first innings in seven straight games, giving the club two of four games over the course of the season. I mentioned it in my pre-match notes. The club in Washington, D.C., went 36-9 in the first innings this year, winning 6-18 when the opponent scored first and 13-2 when the opponent scored first. Will it be 6-19 after this match?
