CALEDONIA – The work of photographer Robert Salkin, a friend and former colleague of Village Gallery owner Bill White, will be on display at Caledonia Gallery throughout October.
The exhibition will open with a reception on Oct. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the gallery, 3119 Main St. Surkin, and he will be speaking about his work at the reception.
Gallery owner Linda White said Salkin’s work was beautiful and mysterious, and art historian Genevieve Hendricks said it was “a creatively conceived, complex, and carefully constructed work that combines the micro and the macro. “It reveals a world of surreal juxtapositions where fact and fiction merge.” ”
A native of Roanoke, Virginia, Salkin was a colleague of Bill White and taught photography at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia.
Painter Bill White is a professor emeritus at Hollins University, where he taught for more than 40 years.
Bill White and his wife, Linda, visited Caledonia in 2016 to visit their daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Jay Hunt, and their grandchildren, and returned in 2017 to open their debut Village Gallery. I’m here.
During a visit in 2016, Bill White said he was looking for a space where he could bring his own artwork and library. He saw a vacant building on Main Street and decided it was the perfect place for him. Contractors spent a year renovating the interior, turning it into a gallery suitable for displaying White’s collection of large, medium and small oil paintings.
Since opening, the gallery has regularly hosted exhibitions featuring works, artists and art groups, as well as informal gallery conversations and workshops. White maintains his own art library in the gallery and also has a studio in the back room of the gallery, where he works with an easel and an abundance of brushes and paints.
Sulkin’s work will be on display at the Village Gallery until October 29th.
Gallery hours are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
