social manners can often be viewed as a matter of opinionbecause different people follow different social cues and conventions in different situations.
Often times, people who complain about certain behavior online find that many people agree with their point of view. Or face an overwhelming barrage of comments from individuals who say their perspectives are not aligned with ‘normal’ expectations.
The latter is what happened to TikTok user Katie (@katiecomedy). He accused guests who attended his 30-person potluck dinner with only one box of pizza. Many viewers responded that the whole point of the potluck was for everyone to bring a little food and everyone in attendance to be a full meal. You may not be able to get everything, but you can pick and choose whatever is available.
The person devilified in Katy’s original video posted details of his story on TikTok.
In a now viral video, TikToker’s Xander Herman (@xanderherm) says he spliced together the original clip and brought pizza, plus cookies and garlic knots.

“Hey pizzeria here,” he says, starting the video. “To explain the situation, I attended this potluck and brought cookies first. Got some garlic knots. You know, really turn it up, but maybe that wasn’t enough.”
In the comments section, viewers sided with Herman on the issue.
One commenter criticized Katie for not understanding the definition of potluck.
The second highlights how unfair it is for Katie to expect Herman to serve enough pizzas for all the guests at the gathering.
Another person added, “She doesn’t make sense because if everyone brings food for 30 people, everyone has to eat 30 servings.”
Some viewers also said that the event seemed to lack proper coordination. Didn’t anyone coordinate to bring it?” asked one commenter.
Another user pledged allegiance to Herman and said he thinks Katie is wrong. In her other videos she continues to dig a bigger and bigger hole for herself!”
The Daily Dot reached out to Herman and Katie via comments on TikTok for more information.
