On Thursday, Usher was honored at the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards, where he received the Voice of Culture Award.
“Extra’s” Teri Seymour spoke with Usher, who said he was thrilled his children and wife were in attendance.
“Every time I win a title it’s proof that I’ve accomplished something great in life, so I’m really pleased to receive this recognition,” Usher said.
Usher also spoke about health and fitness after making headlines for not eating anything on Wednesday. He added: “Sometimes I fast and drink other juices but most of the time I just fast and not eat anything on that day. This is not a religious thing, it’s a practice that my late grandmother and I shared and her prayer meetings are one of the reasons why I decided to continue doing this.”
He added, “Today is a day I set aside to connect and slow down.”
Usher grew up in Atlanta, and the city has played a big role in his dreams, as he explained, “This is the city of dreams, and those dreams come true… I’m excited to be a representative for that, and I’m excited to bring what I’ve built in Atlanta to the world.”
Usher spoke about his excitement for the new tour and how his Las Vegas residency has reignited that passion.
He said: “I love touring, and to have that moment to reset and reignite that spark of excitement and entertainment like I did in Las Vegas was a dream come true for me. That dream became a reality in Las Vegas, and now I get to travel the world and share even more.”
Speaking about what motivates him, Usher commented, “I don’t believe in what other people think about me. I encourage you to do the same, just like I don’t care about what other people think about you. Care about what you think about yourself.”
