When faced with defeat, Emily Ducote chose a different approach: collaboration. After losing to Angela Hill in December, Ducote (12-7, 1-1 UFC) decided to join forces with her rival. Despite his four-win streak coming to an end and his first UFC loss at ESPN 42, Ducote saw an opportunity to grow.
“In fact, at this camp I had the opportunity to train with Angela Hill and Jessica Penne.‘” Ducote shared during UFC Vegas 73 media day on Wednesday. “Cool even before I knew my opponent changed from Polyana Viana to Godines“
Originally, Ducote was scheduled to fight Poliana Viana. However, Viana abstained from the fight and was hurriedly faced with Roopy Godinez (9-3, 4-3 UFC). Given the circumstances, the bout was agreed upon at a catchweight of 120 pounds, even though the two fighters normally fight at strawweight.
While Ducote is gearing up for the fight, recognizing the unique circumstances that led to this collaboration, he remains grateful for the opportunity to train with Hill and Penne. It’s a reminder of camaraderie within the UFC, with support fighters working together even as they prepare for their own fights.
In addition to the intrigue, Ducote and Hill will share the same matchup card. This Saturday, May 20, 2023 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas at UFC Vegas 73, Angela Hill will take on Mackenzie Dern in a highly anticipated strawweight bout. The battle between Hill and Dern has been elevated to headliner status, demonstrating talent and excitement within the division.
The UFC Vegas 73 main card will air live on ESPN+ starting at 7pm ET, giving fans a thrilling fight night. Having Ducote in the same card as Hill adds extra excitement and symbolism to their training journey.
