This was first reported by The new york timesthe social media company has confirmed that certain portions of Twitter’s source code, the underlying computer code that builds the social network, have been published online.
Twitter discovered on Friday that GitHub hosts some of its source code, according to court filings. Twitter demanded that the software development site remove the code, and it responded immediately.
Despite this, it’s unclear when that code was actually published to GitHub. According to the company, it has been on Twitter for “at least several months.”In the complaint, Twitter alleged that the user infringed his Twitter copyright.
Twitter is now seeking a court order against GitHub to disclose the names of the user who uploaded the original code and the user who subsequently downloaded the code. According to an unnamed source cited by The New York Times, a Twitter official said one of the company’s former employees, who were laid off in late 2022 when Elon Musk became owner and CEO, was one of them. I suspect I leaked the code.
Elon Musk, who bought Twitter for $44 billion and took it private in October, faces new challenges as a result of leaks. Since then, there have been widespread job cuts and lost advertising revenue. Meanwhile, Tesla’s CEO reportedly claimed that Twitter was worth him less than $20 billion.
On March 31, Musk said the code behind Twitter’s recommended tweets would be open source. and admitted that it would be “incredibly embarrassing” to provide access to his source code.
